Israeli Murders of Al-Nemnem and Rafik Hariri

November 7, 2010

Palestinians carry the coffin of Mohammed Jamil al-Nemnem during his funeral in Gaza City.

The Israeli military's murder of the Palestinian resistance fighter Mohammed Al-Nemnem on November 3 in Gaza City is very similar to the targeted killing of the Lebanese leader Rafik Hariri in February 2005.  Al-Nemnem, a 27-year-old leader of the Army of Islam, was killed in an Israeli missile airstrike on his car in the Gaza Strip, which is exactly how I believe Hariri was killed.

On November 4, the International Herald Tribune report of the murder of Al-Nemnem was placed directly above a report about the U.N.'s Hariri tribunal.  I was struck by the placement of these related articles.  While the murder of Hariri is not yet solved, I have always been of the opinion that he was killed in the same way that Al-Nemnem was killed.  The only difference is that Hariri (and 20 other Lebanese) was killed with an air-launched missile that carried a larger explosive payload with a delayed fuse, which caused a crater in the street.  The method of the two murders is exactly the same - a missile fired at a targeted car from an airborne drone.  It is the preferred method of murder being used by the U.S. CIA on a daily basis in Pakistan.
