Baroness Warsi, a senior member of David Cameron's cabinet, resigned on August 5, 2014, citing the British government's failure to take stronger measures to stop Israel's criminal offensive in the Gaza Strip.

A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE

Warsi resigned as a matter of principle saying she was no longer able to support the Cameron government's policy on the escalation of violence in the Israel–Gaza conflict, describing the government's position as "morally indefensible".

In her resignation letter, Warsi wrote that the UK government's "approach and language during the current crisis in Gaza is morally indefensible and is not in Britain’s national interest." Britain's policy regarding Israel's aggression against Gaza is "not consistent with the rule of law and our long support for international justice," Warsi said.

Baroness Warsi also called for an arms embargo against Israel: "It appalls me that the British government continues to allow the sale of weapons to a country, Israel, that has killed almost 2,000 people, including hundreds of kids, in the past four weeks alone. The arms exports to Israel must stop."
